Let’s Get Started … Here’s How:
- Write a Business Plan!
The Business Plan is a detailed plan where you lay out your plan of action for your business start up and how it will initially be operated and managed. Be sure to do something you absolutely LOVE!!! Next you need to choose a business name, decide on the type and location of your business. It contains resume of owners, how it will be financed (if at all), what advertising mediums will be used, where and how often, and projected costs. The plan also states its compliance with zoning and other ordinances. It will include a market analysis and outline the product/service and how the business will be organized and managed.
- Get the Necessary/Desired Training.
Your business may require professional certifications or training hours or licenses.
- Register Your Business.
You will need and Employer Identification Number (EIN) first. You may need to do this step while you’re writing your business plan so you can ensure the name you choose is available. Next you’ll need to register your business with your respective state. If you currently have a business and want to branch out, you may just need to do a Doing Business As (DBA).
- Apply for Licenses.
If you deal with alcohol, fire arms, or any type of controlled substance, you will be required to apply for and be approved for a specific license.
- Will You Have Employees?
If so, then you need to know about the legal steps required to hiring employees.
- Financing Your Business.
Are you a minority owned business? Are you a veteran? Do you have a documented disability? Some of these situations provide for the opportunity to apply for grants and loans to start a new business. Some business types are able to get loans easier than others. You can also look toward investors to fund your start up costs.
